Obesity as a Risk Factor for Hypertension and Diabetes among Truck Drivers in a Logistics Company, South Africa

Despite the occupational nature of truckers predisposing them to cardiovascular diseases and risk factors, data is scarce on their prevalence obesity its association with developing hypertension (HBP) diabetes in South Africa. Extracted from original cross-sectional study a sample 312 employees logistics company, census 96 male was used determine HBP diabetes. WHO STEPwise approach collect data, including systolic (SBP) diastolic (DBP) blood pressure anthropometry measurements. defined as SBP/DBP ≥ 140/90 mmHg, overweight/obesity BMI 25 kg/m2, abdominal by waist circumference WC 90cm, waist-to-hip-ratio WHR 0.90, waist-to-height ratio WHtR 0.5. Data were analysed using SPSS 22. The mean age 46 years, 29% smokers, 57% alcohol users, while 26% physically inactive. overweight (44%) (30%) observed, high; (59%), (65%), (80%). (57%) prevalent 14%. odds high for obese [AOR = 4.68; CI 1.92–11.34)] 5.49 1.74–17.27), associated (AOR 1.19; 1.19–31.21). This showed an associative link between obesity, HBP, among truckers, which informative relevant prevention programme tailored needs.
